JOHOR BARU: The AND1 Streetball Challenge is back, offering an opportunity for young talented basketball enthusiasts from around Johor to showcase their skills to win the ultimate prize of being the best basketballer in the state.
The second leg of the tournament will be held at Sutera Mall here between 8am and 6pm on June 28.
AND1 Streetball Challenge tournament director Wong Wing Wai said Johor has never failed to impress, as there are many talented basketball players in the state.
He said last year, about 190 teams from all over the state participated in the challenge and hoped the number of teams for this year would increase.
“The tournament provides a platform for youngsters to show their skills and also an opportunity for those who participated but did not make it last year to have a chance to redeem themselves,” he said.
The main event will have the teams battling it out 3-on-3 at the round-robin stage, before moving on to the knockout stage to win the cash prizes of RM900, RM600 and RM300 for the champions, runners-up and the third placed teams respectively.
The highlight events will start off with the best shooter competition and the slam dunk competition where the top two dunkers will receive trophies courtesy of StarMetro.

Following that is the crowd favourite “In Search of Streetballer” competition, where individuals will get to demonstrate their freestyle skills in front of current AND1 streetballers and event sponsors.
A free throw competition would be thrown in for good measure and exclusive AND1, Milo and Spalding merchandise will be up for grabs.
Organised by Ossia World of Golf (M) Sdn Bhd, the challenge would be divided into four categories including Boys Under-13, Under-15, Under-18 and Under-21.
Those interested in participating should submit their forms by hand with RM90 registration fee to JBE Hoops Station outlet in Skudai Parade or Crystal Mas Hotel Sdn Bhd in Taman Johor Jaya.
The AND1 Streetball Challenge is an event sanctioned by the Malaysian Basketball Association.
