Response to the event is expected to be overwhelming, but the organisers will be capping participation to 300 teams per venue in favour of making sure the event runs smoothly.
The 3-on-3 format will serve as the main event at each leg, with additional highlight events for the players to further stand out with their streetball skills.
Participants will demonstrate their shooting and slam-dunk skills in the freestyle streetballer segment for a chance to win exclusive merchandise from AND1 and Milo at each leg.
The grand finals for the streetball challenge will be held at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur in November where the top three freestylist finishers from each leg will be invited to duke it out in front of the public on a specially set up court.
Nestle sports marketing manager Ng Ping Loong said Milo was happy to have seen the event grow in size and popularity, and with each year there’s new blood to make things competitive.
“We are continuing to do it after 11 years because many youths aspire to be part of this tournament.
“To me, it is all about giving the children exposure and improving their life skills through sports,” he added.
The five categories available this year are: Boys under-13, Boys under-15, Boys under-18, Girls under-18 and Men under-21.
This year’s challenge will be held beginning May 25 over four legs beginning at Aeon shopping centre in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, followed by Sutra Mall in Skudai, Johor on June 28.
The dates and venues in Penang and Kuantan will be announced on the organisers’ website.
The first 100 teams to register will receive a limited-edition LA Lakers basketball in addition to the Spalding ball for each team and AND1 jersey for each player.
