The organisers W.O.S. World of Sports have limited participation to 400 teams. And its executive director Saw Swee Leong urged teams to register early to avoid disappointment.
“Teams have started submitting their entry forms and it is indeed encouraging. We have also received entries from teams from Malacca, Seremban and Pahang. Based on feedback, we should be able to get the maximum number of teams for the grandfinals,’’ said Swee Leong.
The grand finals, a culmination of a four-leg circuit, has six categories — Boys’ Under-13, Boys’ Under-15, Boys’ Under-18, Boys’ Under-21, Men’s Under-25 and Girls’ Under-18 — and is the 11th edition of the streetball challenge.
The champions, in each category, will receive vouchers worth RM900 while the second and third placed teams will get vouchers worth RM600 and RM300 respectively.
Participants will get the chance to test their skills in other events — In search of streetballer competition, Best shooter competition and Slam Dunk competition — offering attractive prizes. There will also be a lucky draw with limited edition of AND1 products as prizes.
The event, sanctioned by the Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba), issupported by StarMetro (official media), Milo (official beverage), One FM (official radio) and Berjaya Times Square (official venue sponsor).
The registration fee is RM90 per team. Each player will receive an AND1 jersey and each team will receive a Spalding basketball on the event day.
Swee Leong said the tournament would be played in a round robin format with three teams in each group.
“Each team will ge to play at least two games. As in the past seasons, we are creating a platform for youngsters to get together for an enjoyable time.
“We also expect parents to come in full force to support their children.
“We have also conducted a series of coaching clinics to promote the challenge.
“Qualified coaches were present to teach the juniors the basic skills in basketball,’’ said Swee Leong.
