<br />
RATHER than enjoying themselves on a Saturday night, 18 boys spent
the time to learn some extra court techniques, courtesy of a basketball
clinic organised by athletic footwear company AND1.<br />
<br />
The heavy evening rain left Taman Pusat Kepong’s basketball court wet
and slippery, but that did not deter the participants from learning to
polish their skills under the guidance of visiting coach Ashraf Sharaf
Addin.<br />
<br />
Accredited by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Ashraf,
who hails from Yemen, is currently on a tour of FIBA’s Asian leagues
and was contacted by former national basketball coach Sue Teck Hua to
see if he could give a few pointers.<br />
<br />
For many of the boys, just warming up took a new twist with new
routines to work up the body’s core muscles, such as lifting a tennis
ball with one’s legs into the workout partner’s hands.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWXuz16wtHzu85_sG-x-i1tUBB2Ztydlmmip3mxoGAz3TaROtx2f488Qbr6CgtV4-87tPuE7i70QPb00NcSBIURNDFcQGrgbqkxsJXxk4Vt89ETgCyv6ZqokHLxFaFmAcYwsFXd9QFmcbY/s1600/metd_and1_randeep_11.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWXuz16wtHzu85_sG-x-i1tUBB2Ztydlmmip3mxoGAz3TaROtx2f488Qbr6CgtV4-87tPuE7i70QPb00NcSBIURNDFcQGrgbqkxsJXxk4Vt89ETgCyv6ZqokHLxFaFmAcYwsFXd9QFmcbY/s1600/metd_and1_randeep_11.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWXuz16wtHzu85_sG-x-i1tUBB2Ztydlmmip3mxoGAz3TaROtx2f488Qbr6CgtV4-87tPuE7i70QPb00NcSBIURNDFcQGrgbqkxsJXxk4Vt89ETgCyv6ZqokHLxFaFmAcYwsFXd9QFmcbY/s640/metd_and1_randeep_11.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ashraf (in white) teaching the youngsters the correct way to do push-ups.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Even basics like making a lay-up became a refresher, where working in
a one-to-one drill, players had to fake a jump-shot, then press in on a
direct attack without shying away from making body contact.<br />
<br />
“A lot of you guys just receive the pass, and charge in like a bull
without looking at the basket first,” said Ashraf to the boys, with Sue
on hand to help translate.<br />
<br />
Making a straight- and 45-degree jump-shot also became challenging,
with the boys having to mark the number of baskets sunk, and as an
incentive to pay attention, they were forced to do “suicide” runs.<br />
<br />
“It is more about emphasising teamwork, and to pay attention to
what’s going on, instead of just focusing on your own corner or area of
the court,” said Ashraf.<br />
<br />
This emphasis, he explained, came about because more often than not
in 3-on-3 basketball, such as the upcoming AND1 tournament at Berjaya
Times Square in November, the team often relied on one star player.<br />
<br />
“The way I structured this clinic, is to systematically start first
with one-on-one, then two-on-two, then three-on-three, then you get a
very strong team,” Ashraf added.<br />
<br />
The youngest participant, Jason Tan Jee Kin, 11, said he enjoyed the
workshop even if it was curtailed by a second bout of heavy rain. “I learnt a lot, and it was fun, but tiring too,” Tan smiled, while
his lay-up partner, Chen Yong Li, who towered over the 11-year-old, said
he had hoped to participate in this year’s tournament.<br />
<br />
“But I also have PT3 this year, so my family didn’t allow it,” said the Tim Duncan fan. <br />
<br />
The teen years, Sue said, was a good period to develop one’s
basketball skills and find out if they had what it takes to go
professional.<br />
<br />
“You have not learnt a lot of bad habits yet, so workshops like this
one tonight will help in setting you on the correct path. But you also
need to go practise on the court often!” he laughed.<br />

After three legs in Selangor, Penang and Johor,
the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge is coming to Kuala Lumpur for the
grand finals in Berjaya Times Square on Nov 15.<br />
<br />
While the main 3-on-3 event has always attracted avid basketballers
to pit their skills in the competition, participants can stand out from
the sea of players by demonstrating their shooting and slam-dunk skills
in the best-shooter challenge and crowd-pleasing slam-dunk exhibition.<br />
<br />
By scoring the most baskets in a given time or pulling off the most outrageous slam-dunk, Milo hampers and the <em>StarMetro</em> Slam Dunk Trophy await the winners of the side events.<br />
<br />
The search for this year’s AND1 streetballer continues and will take
place on the centre court in front of the public to find the next
Malaysian AND1 streetballer, worthy of a RM3,000 contract along with
merchandise and the Malaysian AND1 streetballer title.<br />

only to gauge the skills of would-be free-stylists, but also go
toe-to-toe with them on a one-on-one streetball challenge.<br />
<br />
For this year’s grand finals, organisers have added the Men’s
Under-25 category to this year’s 3-on-3 competition on top of the usual
Boys Under-12, Boys Under-15, Boys Under-18, Girls Under-18, and Men’s
Under-21.<br />
<br />
Last year’s grand finals held at Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur
saw 300 teams battle through their categories from dawn till dusk, with
teams from Secret Academy nabbing top spots in the girls Under-18, boys
Under-15 and boys Under-18 categories.<br />
<br />
The top three winners in each category will walk away with World of Sports vouchers worth RM900, RM600 and RM300.<br />

<em>StarMetro</em> is the official media partner of the tournament, Milo the official beverage sponsor and Spalding the official ball partner.<br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The 22-year-old, who is working in Singapore, said that this time
around he wants to make sure he is able to win at least one competition
in the one-day event.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Me and my two other friends take part in the men’s open category but
it is in the individual competition that I wanted to win the most.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“My strength is the slam dunk competition where I have been
practising for at least a week before the challenge starts,” he told <em>StarMetro </em>during the event held at Dataran Bandaraya here recently.</div>

Yeo pointed out that he has been watching closely how NBA star Kobe
Bryant was able to do his slam dunk in competitive matches in television
as well on Youtube.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Kobe is the best slam dunk around, where he been doing it for the

he said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
After eight years of trying, Yeo finally got his hands on the <em>StarMetro</em> Slam Dunk Competition trophy after beating six other competitors.</div>

Meanwhile, a girl put to shame eight boys by winning the best shooter
competition after putting in six balls into the net in a row.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
SMK Seri Alam 2 student Fong Yeu Tyan, 15, said that she has been
playing basketball for the past three years, including representing her
school and state in national level competitions.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Actually, I never wanted to take part in the competition but my
friends told me that I would be able to beat the boys in their own game.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I took up their challenge, where I was the only girl in the competition and I beat all of them easily,” she said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With 195 teams in the streetball challenge, it was divided into four
categories – Boys Under-12, Boys Under-15, Boys Under-18 and Men
Under-21.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The top-three winners in each category won World of Sports vouchers worth RM900, RM600 and RM300 respectively.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
World Of Sports (M) Sdn Bhd international trade coordinator Susan
Cheong said the competition went on smoothly and added the teams played
their best to win and showcase their talents.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Johor has never been disappointing for us where we always get good reception from the boys and girls,” she said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After the three legs at IOI Mall in Puchong, Penang Times Square, and

INDONESIAN Sudyanto, 21, purposely flew in from Medan to get a
‘competition feel’ at the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge 2015 at Penang
Times Square in George Town.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The college student did not return home empty-handed as he was one of the two winners of the side event ‘<em>StarMetro</em> Slam Dunk Competition’. He had spectators in awe with his powerful ‘flying dunk’ that saw him leaping for the basket from a distance.“Practice makes perfect. I practise a lot back home as I love basketball a lot.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“But there are not many competitions in my hometown. “When I heard of this competition, I knew I had to come here with my friends and our coach. “This is my first trip here and it is a worthwhile one. It was good
to be up against the challenge. The food here is outstanding too,” he
said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another winner of the ‘Slam Dunk Competition’ was 19-year-old college student Lee Zheng Qin. Zheng Qin won the heart of judge Wayne Ooi Chong Yew with his
performance of jumping over two of his two friends and putting the ball
into the basket. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I can jump very high because I used to represent my school in high jump. I never thought I could win. I just gave it my best and it turned out to be one of the best,” he said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Both Sudyanto and Zheng Qin received a Milo hamper, a Spalding basketball and a <em>StarMetro</em> trophy from <em>The Star</em> news editor (regional) K. Suthakar.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Suthakar also gave away prizes to the top three winners of the ‘In
Search of Streetballer Competition’ Chua Zheng Xuan, 16, Goh Tee En, 16,
and Ang Chuan Heng, nine. The trio will now battle it out with winners of other states at the
grand finals for the AND1 Street-baller title which comes with a RM3,000
contract along with various merchandise.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Catching the eyes of the public and judge was Chuan Heng, who was clearly not overawed by the event despite his young age.He put up a few tricks that made him outstanding among the other contestants. “I always view YouTube videos to learn the latest streetball tricks and skills,” he said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A total of 190 teams took part in the streetball challenge that was
divided into four categories — Boys Under-12, Boys Under-15, Boys
Under-18 and Men Under-21. The top three winners in each category won World of Sports vouchers worth RM900, RM600 and RM300 respectively.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
W.O.S. World Of Sports (M) Sdn Bhd international trade coordinator
Susan Cheong said the competition went smoothly and the weather had been
kind to the players. “It was not very hot and participants got to enjoy themselves with some good workout,” she said. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After the two legs at IOI Mall, Puchong, and Penang Times Square, the
next will be at Sutera Mall, Johor, in September and the grand final in
Kuala Lumpur in November. Malaysia Basketball Association sanctioned the competition. <em>StarMetro</em> is the official media partner of the tournament. Milo is the official beverage sponsor and Spalding is the official ball partner.</div>

THE 10th edition of the upcoming AND1 3x3
Streetball Challenge 2015 at Penang Times Square is attracting not only
Penangites but also enthusiasts from other states.<br />
<br />
Half of the teams registered so far are from Perlis, Kedah and Perak and the organiser has limited the entries to 200 teams. Freelance basketball coach Tan Chee Wan said young cagers from Kulim,
Alor Setar, Kubang Pasu, Ipoh, Krian and Kangar have confirmed their
participation.<br />
<br />
“They have chartered buses to come to Penang for the competition. Most of them are players from MVP Basketball Academy,” he said
before conducting a coaching clinic at SJK (C) Yang Cheng in Teluk
Kumbar, Penang, recently.<br />
<br />
“Good players possess not only skills but show the right temperament
during competitions. In this way, they grow to become better players.”<br />
<br />
A total of 42 players took part in the coaching session which was
conducted ahead of the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge to be held at the
Penang Times Square on Aug 15.<br />
<br />
The session began with a warm-up drill. Then, the players were given
pointers on ball handling, dribbling, passing and landing on one foot
following a lay-up. Tan said he tried to conduct his training in an interesting manner so the players would get hooked to the game.Two certified coaches Ooi Jun Kai and Bryan Loh helped him.<br />
<br />
SK Sacred Heart student G.M. Vicknesh, 14, said the training session under Tan was an eye-opener. “His approach is very different. You won’t feel tired or bored
because most of the running is already incorporated into part of the
drills,” he said.<br />
<br />
Organised by W.O.S. World of Sports (M) Sdn Bhd, the competition will
be divided into four categories — Boys’ Under-12, Boys’ Under-15, Boys’
Under-18 and Men’s Under-21.Registration fee is at RM90 per team and each player will receive a Spalding jersey and a Spalding basketball on the event day.<br />
<br />
Each streetball team will play at least twice in a round robin of three teams in the preliminary rounds. The top three winners in each category will walk away with World of Sports vouchers worth RM900, RM600 and RM300 respectively.<br />
<br />
The one-day event will also feature ‘In Search of Streetballer
Competition’, ‘StarMetro Slam Dunk Competition’, ‘Best Shooter
Competition’ and lucky draw with limited edition products of AND1.<br />
<br />
Penang Times Square is hosting the second leg after the first at IOI Mall, Puchong, last month.Next up will be a leg at Sutera Mall, Johor, in September and the grand final in Kuala Lumpur in November.<br />
<br />
For the grand finals, the top three free- stylists from each leg will
be invited to battle for the AND1 streetballer title which will come
with a RM3,000 contract along with merchandise.<br />
<br />

<br />
GETTING young children to attend training can be a tough task.But freelance basketball coach Tan Chee Wan has his own way of making things interesting for his young charges.<br />
<br />
After
all, he is a frequent traveller to the Philippines, where he picked up
ideas and pointers from coaches touted as the best in the South-East
Asia region.<br />
<br />
“The Philippines is the basketball powerhouse in this region.“Over there, you won’t get to see children being told to run 20
rounds on the court just to warm up. That’s a very old style of
training.<br />
<br />
“They emphasise on the fundamental basketball skills, and incorporate interesting methods into their training. “Players
won’t feel bored easily and they always look forward to training
sessions,” he said after conducting a recent two-hour coaching clinic at
SJK (C) Wen Khai in Batu Maung, Penang.<br />
<br />
A total of 42 pupils
aged between seven and 12 benefitted from the training session, which
was held ahead of the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge to be held at the
Penang Times Square on Aug 15.<br />
<br />
The session began with the players going through the drill to strengthen their muscles and improve their agility and movement.Then they are given pointers on ball handling, dribbling and passing. Tan said the formative years were vital as young players needed strong foundation to reach the top of the game.<br />
<br />
“It is vital to expose youngsters to new training techniques in order to keep up with the modern game. “My activities are focused on the basic techniques. The players need to get this right before we talk about tactical game plan.<br />
<br />
“We are here to create an interest among budding cagers and develop their potential further,” he said. Citing an example, Tan said one of his charges who was now a Kedah state player, could ‘spring and dunk’ at the age of 14.<br />
<br />
“He went through the right training during the formative years and his calf muscles were strong.“He also had sound footwork and all the basic skills,” he said.<br />
<br />
During the session, Tan also gave out T-shirts and jerseys as prizes to some of the best performers. The first leg of the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge was held at the IOI Mall, Puchong last month.Penang
Times Square will host the second leg on Aug 15, followed by Sutera
Mall, Johor in September and the grand final in Kuala Lumpur in

It was his perfectly executed self alley-oop dunk that won the<em> StarMetro </em>Slam Dunk competition during the first leg of the AND1 Streetball Challenge at IOI Mall, Puchong.<br />
<br />
The
confidence shown by the 17-year-old Raub-born youngster was well
reflected in his performance as it was completed nicely without
hesitation.<br />
<br />
“I knew I was going to win the competition but other players showed some really good dunks.“There is a basketball hoop in my house and I practise often,” he said.<br />
<br />
Playing for the Los Angelos (LA) Lakers Big Three, it is not difficult to guess that Wan is a big fan of the NBA team.“I am a big fan of Kobe Bryant of the LA Lakers.“Sometimes, I do freestyle basketball too,” he said. <br />
<br />
Wan
was among 15 participants who took part in the Slam Dunk competition.
The other winner of the contest was Mun Tze Qian, 15, who plays for
Secret 15 B.<br />
<br />
The slam dunk competition was one of the side show events that added to the thrill of the annual AND1 basketball challenge.<br />
<br />
Others
competitions included Best Shooter competition as well as the
Streetballer competition, where participants were awarded marks
according to several criteria, such as dribbling, juggling, originality,
creativity and finishing.<br />
<br />
Kedahan Mohammad Aizzat Iskandar, 19,
who was one of the winners of the Streetballer competition, said he
sought inspiration from YouTube to diversify his freestyle basketball
moves.<br />
<br />
“I learnt some of the dribbling skills online such as the
Ankle Breaker as well as Shammgod crossover moves, which I have also
performed at the Streetball competition.<br />
<br />
“The skills allow me to fool other opponents on the court.“I just tried my best during the Streetball competition and I am glad I won the competition,” he said.<br />
<br />
Winners of each leg of the Streetball competition will battle it out at the In Search of Streetballer grand final. <br />
For
the AND1 streetball challenge, the five categories for the 3 on 3 this
year are: Boys Under-12, Boys Under-15, Boys Under-18, Girls Under-18
and Men’s Under-21.<br />
<br />
AND1 organiser W.O.S. World of Sport executive
director Saw Swee Leong said 313 teams took part in the three-on-three
Streetball Challenge.<br />
<br />
“It comes up to more than 900 participants in total. “This
year is the 12th edition of the AND1 Streetball Challenge and it has
always been a platform for youngsters to hone their basketball skills.“Playing for seven minutes per game definitely ups the adrenaline and challenge when players have to deliver the points. “Although
the game is slightly different from mainstream basketball, the
streetball version manages to attract a lot of interest especially among
youths,” he said.<br />
<br />
The following legs will be in Penang Times
Square, Penang in August, Sutera Mall, Johor in September and the grand
final in Kuala Lumpur, in November.<br />
<br />
For the grand finals, the top
three freestylists from each leg will be invited to battle for the AND1
streetballer title, which will come with a RM3,000 contract along with
merchandise.<br />
<br />
<em>StarMetro</em> is the official media partner of
the tournament, Milo is the official beverage sponsor and Spalding is
the official ball partner.<br />

YOUNG basketball players who want to go far should embrace their talents and not limit themselves by being afraid to dream big.<br />
<br />
“Players
don’t dare to dream,” said former Selangor junior basketball coach Sue
Teck Hua after a AND1 basketball clinic at Sekolah Sri UCSI, in Subang
Jaya, Selangor.<br />
<br />
With this year’s AND1 challenge drawing closer,
Sue is helping the boys learn a few drills that focus on both individual
and team skills which can help them not just during the AND1
three-on-three event, but also in their school’s co-curriculum.<br />
<br />
The
first leg of the tournament will be on June 14 at IOI Mall in Puchong,
Selangor, featuring the main three-on-three event, the <em>StarMetro</em> slam dunk competition, shooting competition and the special “Search for AND1 streetballer” challenge.<br />
<br />
<div class="inlineAd" id="content_1_inlineAd" style="float: left; width: 100%;">
<div id="inlineAd1">
<div id="div-gpt-ad-1392882089877-0" style="width: 600px;">
</div>
</div>
</div>
Sue touched on ball handling, passing, defence formations, jumping techniques and core exercises during the two-hour clinic.<br />
<br />
“The
‘shell drill’ is to prepare them for team defence during games,”
explained the former junior coach, who wanted to make the clinic “not
like their usual training”.<br />
<br />
Sue also instructed the boys to practise dribbling as low as they could.<br />
<br />
“Our
players can dribble well but they are not used to dribbling low, if you
can dribble the ball just a few inches off the ground, it won’t be easy
for your opponent to steal your ball,” he explained.<br />
<br />
“Most of the boys are skilled but progression is key and they have to set goals for themselves,” he said.<br />
With
this year’s AND1 Streetball challenge continuing with the same format
as previous editions, basketballers can pit their skills in competition
with the main three-on-three event.<br />
<br />
They can also demonstrate
their shooting and slam-dunk skills as well as freestyle skills in the
“Search for streetballer” segment for a chance to win exclusive
merchandise from AND1 and Milo at each leg.<br />
<br />
The five categories
for the three-on-three this year are: Boys Under-12, Boys Under-15, Boys
Under-18, Girls Under-18 and Men’s Under-21.<br />
<br />
After IOI Mall,
Puchong, on June 14, the following legs will be in Penang Times Square,
Penang, in August, Sutera Mall, Johor, in September and the grand final
in Kuala Lumpur in November.<br />
<br />
The exact dates for the upcoming legs and venue for the grand final will be announced on the organisers’ website.<br />
<br />
For
the grand finals, the top three freestylists from each leg will be
invited to battle for the AND1 streetballer title which will come with a
RM3,000 contract along with merchandise.<br />
<br />
The first 100 teams to
register before May 31 will receive a limited-edition L.A. Lakers
basketball in addition to the Spalding ball for each team and AND1
jerseys for each player.<br />
<br />
<em>StarMetro</em> is the official media
partner of the tournament, Milo is the official beverage sponsor and
Spalding is the official ball partner.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">After last year’s successful AND1 Streetball Challenge, organisers of

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br />Some 30 students from SMK Engku Husain in Semenyih were invited to

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Pascasio and his assistants, who were in town for a separate

FIFTEEN youths gained valuable advice and boosted their basketball game after another AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge coaching clinic, headed by former national youth coach Sue Teck Hua.<br />
<br />
The clinic was the last for this year’s series organised in conjunction with the 3x3 tournament and was held at the Pusat Rekreasi JKKK Batu 11 Cheras covered basketball court in Kuala Lumpur last Friday.<br />
<br />
During the two-hour session, Sue and his assistant Wong Chien Teck conducted drills and dispensed tips on the art of basketballing.<br />
<br />
Budding basketballers at the clinic were all eyes and ears as the coaches pointed out errors in their techniques and shared the more effective methods.<br />
<br />
Sue is a firm believer that fitness and solid techniques make for a good player and commended the youths whom he found to be very athletic.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
“Apart from having a sound grasp of dribbling, footwork and jumping techniques, they absorbed the drills very well,” Sue revealed.<br />
<br />
“At first I found that they were lacking in their baseline defence, but they picked up the three-person rotation defence I showed them very well.<br />
<br />
“That will go a long way to help them prevent their opponents from scoring easy points,” he added.<br />
<br />
Participants who attended were drilled by pairs and in trios, giving them a chance to perfect their moves before the final leg of the upcoming AND1 3x3 StreetballChallenge.<br />
<br />
The final leg of the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge will take place at Berjaya Times Square this Sunday with 220 teams fighting it out for cash prizes and merchandise.<br />
<br />
Participants at this year’s AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge can also take part in the Slam Dunk and Best Shooter contest that will be held throughout the day and stand a chance to win a trophy and hampers.<br />
<br />
The “In Search of Streetballer” included for the occasion will see the top streetballers from the previous four legs dazzle the crowd with their flashy moves in a grand final.<br />
<br />
The winner of the category will stand a chance to be an ambassador for the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge in a contract worth RM3,000.<br />
<br />
The AND1 Streetball Challenge is an event sanctioned by the Malaysian Basketball Association.<br />
<br />
StarMetro is the official media partner of the tournament, Milo the official beverage sponsor, One FM the official radio and Spalding as the official ball partner.<br />

The coaching clinic, headed by Peter Ng, who played for the national team, startedoff with simple warm-up exercises and basic ball-handling skills.</div>
<br />
Participants were given several passing drills, such as the overhead and bounce passing, ball dribbling, basic layup shot as well as shooting drills.<br />
<br />
Ng said AND1 3-on-3 is different from the normal basketball game as there was more body contact and players had to play in a smaller court.<br />
<br />
“This is where the fundamentals are important especially ball handling skills. Basic knowledge such as dribbling, passing and the ability to land the ball in the basket is important during the game,” he said.<br />

DESPITE a downpour, some 540 players from 180 teams turned up for the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge at Penang Times Square.<br />
<br />
Into its 11th year, the event organised by W.O.S. World of Sports (M) Sdn Bhd saw participants vying for a total of RM7,200 in prize money in four categories — Men Under-21, Boys Under-18, Under-15 and Under-13.<br />
<br />
However, the organiser had to cancel some of the planned highlights such as the Slam Dunk, Best Shooter and Best Streetballer competitions due to the unfavourable weather condition on Saturday.<br />
<br />
After a delay, the organiser decided to stage a free-throw shooting contest instead where players tried to score from a standing position at a fixed distance.<br />
