Pro basketball coaches impart playing techniques at clinic

JOHOR BARU: Student Shao Xian was among the participants at the coaching clinic held at the Foon Yew High School recently.
The coaching clinic was organised by Ossia World of Golf as part of the promotional activities for the second leg of the AND1 3 on 3 Streetball Challenge at Danga Bay, Johor Baru on May 16.
Professional basketball coaches - the Philippines’ Paul Daniel Advincula, Malaysian Tan Kee Hian and Nigerian Ahmad Tenitope - were present to share their experience with the participants.

Advincula, the head coach of Malaysia Basketball Academy in Klang, explained to the participants on the importance of mastering the basic skills - dribbling, shooting and passing - involved in basketball. The participants were also given the chance to go one on one against the towering Tenitope, who is 2.03m tall.
The 16-year-old Shao Xian said he had fun at the clinic.

THE youngsters came out in full force to make the opening leg of the AND1 3-on-3 streetball challenge at the Summit USJ a big success.
Ossia World of Golf, the organisers of the challenge, had set a target of 350 teams but about 370 teams had flocked to the venue as early as 7.30am.
Ossia World of Golf executive director Saw Swee Leong said they were surprised at the overwhelming response for the challenge.

1,150 youngsters expected for streetball challenge

IT is not only a basketball event but the AND1 3 on 3 Streetball Challenge at the USJ Summit on Sunday is also an opportunity for the participants to have a good time.
Besides taking part in the exciting streetball challenge, participants will be able to take part in the free throw, in search of freetsylist and shooting competitions. The events offer attractive prizes to the winners. There will also be a lucky draw offering AND1 merchandise.
Ossia World of Golf executive director Saw Swee Leong said about 1,150 youngsters were expected to gather at the venue on Sunday.
“There will be a carnival atmosphere. As most of the participants are preparing for their school and district basketball competitions, we anticipate some exciting matches,’’ said Saw.
